Why is breakfast the most important meal of the day? It gets your body’s engine fired up and ready to burn calories all day long!
Nonfat Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt has more lean protein than traditional yogurt and is quick and healthy way to start the day.
Oatmeal
Start your day off with a bowl of oatmeal. Try rolled or steel cut oats. Oatmeal in the morning is a great way to fire up the body’s metabolism.
Try adding fruit and honey to add to the taste.
Berries
Use blueberries, strawberries and raspberries in cold cereal, oatmeal and yogurt. Berries are high in an anti-inflammatory compounds called anthocyanins, which may help reduce heart disease and diabetes, and improve eyesight and short-term memory.
Peanut Butter
Peanut or almond butter is a great way to add protein and healthy fat to your morning meal. Not to mention it is fast and easy. Spread a tablespoon of the stuff on whole grain bread, add to a smoothie, mix into oatmeal or spread on apple slices. Try the natural kind to keep sugar under control.
Eggs
Easy and versatile, eggs could be the all time best breakfast food. Eggs are a great source of protein and contain vitamins A and D and the antioxidant lutein for healthy skin and eyes. If you have the time try some red potatoes or yams for added energy.
Flaxseeds
Try adding flaxseed to your oatmeal and yogurt. This adds the much needed omega-3 fat and fiber into the diet. Not to mention helps with digestion.
Cottage Cheese
Try adding black beans and salsa to low-fat cottage cheese to give it a extra punch. Packed with 16 grams of lean protein and only 1 gram of fat
Whole-Grain Cereal
A bowl of whole grain cereal and low fat or skim milk is a streamlined way to start the day. Make sure to avoid cereals that are high in sugar and processed ingredients.
